Last Monday, my husband and I were in beautiful upstate New York for my cousin Linda’s Celebration of Life. It was an amazing service that totally gave glory to God. If anyone was special, my cousin was. She had truly learned how to tap into the One who makes us into who we were created to be.
Last week I gave you twenty verses that you could read and reflect on each day. It is good to read through the Bible in one year. That requires reading between 3 and 4 chapters a day. You could read one chapter a day and slow down and study it more carefully.
I remember back in the day when I had hardly any time to read God’s Word.
When I didn’t read the Bible I was overcome with guilt.
The evil one doesn’t want you to dig into God’s Word. Nothing will drive you farther from your Bible than discouragement. I know, it shouldn’t be that way but that is often the way we respond.
That is why I have given you just one or two verses for each day.
Many of you are young moms up during the middle of the night.
Did you take the first 5 verses and read them, meditate on them, write them out? If you have extra time you can always look up key words and see where that takes you.
Verses From Week One
1. Psalm 139:1-6 – These verses were covered in Part One.
2. Jeremiah 1:5
“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”
Jeremiah was already a young man but God wanted him to know that His call on his life went back further than his youth.
God’s plan for his life went back since before he was in his mother’s womb.
God’s plan for your life goes way back before you were born too.
You are THAT special to God!!
“Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,”
Because God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and sovereign, He knows and chooses whatever is going to happen to us.
Have you ever tried to control what is happening in your life?
I know I do that constantly.
I know, I know, I should not admit that.
I am forever planning what is going to happen to our money (like how we will pay for this or that) and I plan out my day the night before. Too often I do these things without asking God what He thinks about my plans.
But this verse says that God predestined or predetermined how things would work out according to His good pleasure.
If I trust God to do the planning (which He is going to do anyhow) my day will turn out according to His good pleasure.
God has my best interest in mind. Yours too.
My husband and I adopted 3 of our 7 children.
God has only one child. His son.
He adopted all the rest!!
“For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:”
Jesus Christ was God in a human body made of skin and organs and emotions that functioned exactly like our body does. He was the Son of God but also God and the Holy Spirit. We cannot fully understand how this can be but we know it is true. Imagine. We = YOU and I – are COMPLETE in Him!! How special is that?! Just know, you are totally special to God. Really you are!!
5. Romans 6:6
“Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.”
Your old body is gone. Crucified. Right?
Sometimes we act like nothing has changed since we started following Jesus. We keep doing the same things. We keep watching and listening to the same old garbage. We are to transformed into a new creature.
Allow God to start the transformation process in your life. Consider and think about whether you really are saved or not. Don’t let your death someday (sooner than you think because life is like a vapour and vanishes quickly) sneak up on you. Once your life is over, it is too late to make a decision about your future!!!
Have you ever taken the 21 Day Bible Reading Challenge?
I hope this little devotional series about how You Are Special is helping you to discover what God really thinks about YOU!!
Go back and meditate on the verses in Psalms 139:1-6 and think about how special YOU are to God. You really are!! He created you to be a blessing to your husband and children. He wants you to be confidence in the inner beauty that He has placed within you so that you can turn around and bless your family and reach beyond them to others.
- Go the extra mile for your husband whether you feel he deserves it or not. Forget youSELF and make him a special lunch, or leave him a note. My relationship with my husband was very strained for many years and it was through doing these kinds of things (even when I really didn’t feel like it) that our relationship was turned around for the better.
- Guard your time on social media. I suppose it is here to stay. It didn’t exist when I was raising our children but the telephone did and the internet was already available. There has always been ways to shut the children out and fill our time in other ways than how we should be filling it. Just be careful and wise!!
