People are hurting all around us. All you have to do is listen and you will find someone hurting because of their life’s painful experiences.
I don’t know how someone manages without the Lord in their life. I just don’t know how they get through the long days and struggles that they face.
I hope you have the Lord in your life because He is able to comfort you when life is more painful than anything you ever imagined.
Hurting from a Broken Heart
Hurting from a broken heart is real.
We live in a society where people must smile and carry on when life is falling apart because their heart is broken from the loss of a child to cancer, or a child who is living a careless and reckless immoral life, or when a woman (or man) is abandoned by their spouse.
When your heart is hurting.
You just carry on.
You pretend to have everything together.
After all, I know for myself, You just can’t go around telling everyone why your heart is broken!
Most people save those kind of things for one of two close friends and only refer to their deepest hurts in vague generalities.
Have You Experienced Divorce?
God intended marriage to be for a lifetime and I’m sure that is what you intended when you first married.
I strongly feel a couple should stay married and work their differences out. With counseling if that is what will rebuild their marriage (but stay with me.)
I am also here to say that divorce is happening at an alarming rate in our society today.
I have three very close friends who are divorced and wish it wasn’t like that. They are godly women. They didn’t seek after the marriage issues and loneliness and hurt they have and still deal with. There are times that it happens because of infidelity and determination in one of the spouses to end the relationship to pursue another.
If you are one of these women, I know that the Lord can and will comfort you.
I hope the verses that I share will bring comfort to your heart.
Have You Experienced Extreme Behavior in Your Child?
Now we are really getting real here.
Maybe your child is difficult because of a special needs issue but not related to rebellion. It can give a mom so much stress when she deals daily with a situation like this.
You might hurt because people misunderstand you. They think you should handle your child differently than you do. Did ‘they’ ever consider that you know your child and the situation best?
Maybe your teen is rebellious and says many hurtful things to you. How many times have you told yourself after a verbal outburst that your child really didn’t mean those words? It still permeates your heart and it does hurt. Dealing with these situations with God’s Word will bring comfort to your heart as the Holy Spirit permeates your being.
Have you ever experienced violence from your child? If you do, please know that Jesus is there in your home even during those high tension outbursts of anger. He will heal you of the hurt and stress and bring a special peace with His presence in your life and each situation. Cry out to God for safety and a calm to cover your home. Print or write out the words from these verses to put where you will see them each day.
Are You Dealing with Illness in Yourself, Family, or Friend?
Serious illness of a loved one is one of the most serious things that can happen in your life.
There isn’t always a solution.
It changes life and turns everything up-side-down.
Routines must be altered.
Family and friends must adjust and help with responsibilities.
Your home begins to get cluttered or possibly even dirty as you cannot keep up because of all the doctor’s visits.
You are hurting because of the loss of financial stability, the relationship has changed as the person no longer feels well.
Sometimes the person passes away.
If you are in this situation, I pray that the Lord will comfort you in a special way and rebuild and heal your health, finances, and restore your situation to where it is no longer your primary focus but instead is Christ.
I hope these verses will bring you comfort.
Remember, these verses are only a jumping off point. The Bible is filled with other verses that will bring comfort to you.
Week Two Readings:
You can read through each passage or verse today or stretch it out for the week. It is up to you.
I am linking the verses so it is easy to quickly access it. My favorite is the King James Version but I am linking it to the New King James Version (GASP!!) because I would rather you clearly understood what you are reading.
- Job 10
- Psalm 34:18
- Psalm 73:26
- John 14:27
- 1 Peter 5:7
- Proverbs 3:5-6
- Matthew 11:28
- Psalm 18:2
- John 16:33
- Pain provides an obstacle for trusting in God. You can either succumb to it or overcome it with the promises found in God’s Word.
- When you are hurting deeply, you might find yourself asking questions of God that you would normally not ever ask. One such question is: “If such a God exists, why is there so much suffering?”
- Although it might seem unlikely, suffering can often have no purpose other than to lead a person to love God more fervently for himself alone and to discover the ultimate peace and freedom in Christ.
The pain you feel today because your heart has been broken, will be the strength you experience tomorrow because you totally trusted in Christ. ~Judith Kowles~
I hope that you find the encouragement and strengthening that your heart needs today.
