God never promised us a beautiful rose garden and there is no guarantee that if you are saved that life will go smoothly. In fact, life often brings quite the opposite as we learn to walk closely with our Lord and Savior.
My life has been no different and I have had some very difficult years and experiences that have caused me to choose whether I wanted bitterness or a closer walk with God.
That is why I decided to share some of what I have learned so that you might be encouraged too.
This will be a four week Bible study with some Bible selections and journaling.
I will be posting each Monday, giving you the Bible passages, free journal printable, and a devotional with thoughts, insights, and encouragement I have learned from this study.
I am so thrilled that you are joining me on this journey as we walk together with God and learn how to deal with painful life experiences.
Hurting from Loss
We can experience many different types of loss over the course of our life. It can be very painful and possibly worse than anything you ever imagined. We live in a society where there is so much motivational hype saying that believers will experience prosperity in every area of their life. This is just not necessarily true.
Take Job for an example.
I am studying through Job as I read through the Bible with Good Morning Girls. This week we read the first 5 chapters.
Job was a very righteous and God fearing man. In Job 1:1 it says that he lived in the land of Uz. It continues and says that he was PERFECT, UPRIGHT, and one that FEARED God, and ESCHEWED (or shunned) evil.
Yet, as the story unfolds he experienced great loss when all his ten children were killed in a devastating calamity. Then to top it off, he lost all his possessions.
Week One Readings:
You can read through each passage or verse today or stretch it out for the week. It is up to you.
I am linking the verses so it is easy to quickly access it. My favorite is the King James Version but I am linking it to the New King James Version (GASP!!) because I would rather you understood what you are reading.
- Job 1
- 1 Peter 5:7
- Job 5:11
- Psalm 27:13-14
- Isaiah 41:10
- John 16:33
- Romans 8:28
- Romans 8:37-39
- Romans 15:13
- 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Most of us have not had all our children die although we might read about a terrible car accident where that has happened. Things can be bad enough without losing everything.
We still need God’s comfort
- Start by CASTING ALL YOUR CARES on Jesus. Pour out your heart.
- Do NOT lose heart
- BELIEVE to see the goodness of the Lord
- WAIT on the Lord
- BE of good COURAGE
- He will STRENGTHEN your heart
- Fear NOT because God is with you
- Be NOT dismayed, He is your God
- God will HELP you
- God will UPHOLD you
- God will give you PEACE
- Be CHEERFUL
- God will fill you with JOY
- God is the God of all HOPE
- God will COMFORT you so you can comfort others
We can have loss through:
- Death of a loved one
- Separation with your spouse, or through a severed friendship
- Loss of your job
- Your reputation can be ruined or tainted
Loss leaves a gaping hole in our hearts which makes us feel like that void will never be filled again.
When you pour out your heart in the presence of the Holy Spirit, you will eventually discover the comfort and fullness that God brings with peace that passes understanding. You have to be persistent when you don’t feel like you are experiencing comfort or peace yet. God loves it when we keep running after Him with a hunger and need for His presence.
I’m not just sharing with you about ‘Hurting from Loss” without having been there and done that.
I haven’t lost a loved one through death or lost all my possessions like Job but I have lost some of our children to the world.
When your spouse or child does not know the Lord and they are choosing to live out their life apart from God, that is such a devastating loss.
As long as they are still in the land of the living there is hope.
BUT to a mom, it can seem so impossible and that is where I have been ‘at.’
I have seven children (yes, you read that right) and 3 are faithfully walking with the Lord while 4 are not.
I don’t know their hearts, only God does, but they are living in moral decay that the Bible clearly says is sin.
No matter what you are facing today, know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Jesus cares and that He will comfort you. I hope you will look up each of those verses and maybe even keep them where you can refer to them often.
I hope that you find the encouragement and strengthening that your heart needs today.
