Do you ever wonder where your time disappears to? I get on a project and I can’t get off the merry-go-round because it is spinning so fast! Being organized with my time eludes me and then I have a myriad of things I never accomplished!!
I am on a quest to change that!!
The idea I am going to share with you today will help us both discover where our time goes to! We all have the same amount of hours in a day but most days I wish I had a 48 hour day since I want to cram as much as possible “IN” before going to bed!!
Now, wouldn’t you know that is the BIGGEST reason WHY I burn the midnight oil?
I like to get up at 5am. That is just me.
But I also have the bad habit of staying up until midnight.
Then it is hard to get up at 5 because I am comatose until 6!!
Then, I feel like I am behind my day’s curve ball as it is impossible to catch up with myself.
Not to mention that everything always takes longer than I ever anticipated.
You are probably thinking that it is easy for me because my kids are all grown and moved out of the house. If you think it is so much harder for you because you have littles, and homeschool, or have to make a zillion lunches, work outside the home, or have a home-based business . . . STOP!!
I had 7 children!!
I homeschooled them ALL the way.
We ate lunch every day too.
We raised and sold rabbits and also had chickens.
Ya da ya da!!
Just do what God has placed in front of you for THIS season and let’s learn together how to use our time wisely?
I Can’t STOP What I am Doing!
I want to know where my time is going.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. ~Matthew 6:33~
Today is a good example of time being thrown out the window. Not because I read my Bible but just because I forget to pace myself.
It didn’t matter whether I was homeschooling or now blogging, for the life of me, I cannot follow a time-schedule. I hope someday to be able to do just that!
Last night, like many nights I made a schedule to follow today. I have made schedules on Google Calendar that I intend to follow.
They never work even for one day!!
I can’t seem to STOP what I am doing when the time is up and start the next thing.
I’ve tried over and over.
I get so caught up in finishing what I am doing that I keep on. Then, I feel like I am behind. I feel guilty. I feel like a failure.
I fail to look at what I HAVE accomplished.
How Does a Time Map Work?
I decided to do an experiment to see where in the world my time is going.
I am going to track my time on my daily schedule and fill the time in with what I actually DID instead of what I intend of doing.
So, if I got caught into Facebook for 30 minutes instead of writing, I am going to put that into the block!
I am trying to take off-line time each day for reading a book or two (or three. True story. I am reading about, wait, 4 books). So, when I meant to read for 30 minutes and didn’t put the book(s) down for an hour, that will go into the slot.
We are to redeem our time because the days are evil. I want to know where my time is going because I will have to give an account for how I used it. I am a steward of my time just as much as for money. Just saying.
Keeping a Time Map
I recently bought a simple calendar to keep track of my schedule and where I was going with it. My intention was to keep track of each thing I did and only spend that amount of time doing it. I am also going to eventually color code what I do. It will look pretty and also stand out for me.
So, do you see that tomorrow is all blank?
I am going to fill in each hour (even every 15 minutes) after that hour passes. I am going to pencil-in what I actually did. I am supposed to have already cleaned out my closet. I haven’t even gotten there.
I don’t have the guts to skip to the next thing!!
You don’t have to have one of these books. I was doing it on a scrap of paper, then I used a printable, I have used one in my (neglected) blog binder, and I am thinking seriously of making my own printable for you.
You can use whichever suits your fancy. I needed something that was attached to a WHOLE book since I literally kept forgetting to find my blog binder. That is a project coming up where I will revive it again.
So Let’s Get Started!!
Do you successfully keep a schedule so that you could have written this post (and done a better job?) OR have you failed in keeping track of your time? LET’S FAIL FORWARD TOGETHER AND START A TIME MAP!!
