Does your home have the warmth of a bed & breakfast?
On very special occasions my husband and I have stayed overnight in a bed and breakfast. Now, mind you, that wasn’t something we did when our children were little. In fact, I never went away without them until a bunch of them were teenagers.
A Bed and breakfast is a popular place to stay. If you know what you are doing, you can find one for about the same price as a motel. Where a motel can be beautiful, they lack the warm atmosphere that a bread and breakfast strives to attain.
A Bed and Breakfast Should Have Warmth
We like to visit Lancaster County, PA once or twice a year. It is within driving distance from our home and is a very relaxing place to visit. It isn’t the place I’d like to go on vacation, but when we just need a weekend get-away, it can be the perfect place to go!!
Whether you like modern or country, I am sure that your home can accommodate your tastes and have an appeal to your family and friends. You don’t have to have money, just be creative.
Most of our furniture was either from my husband’s grandmother, thrift store, or garage sales. The quilts in our home were either made by myself (just one) or my daughters. I made many of our curtains or bought them inexpensively. Our sofas, well they are worn from memories but we have had them for years. The sofa in our family room we have had over 30 years, so you see, you don’t have to spend lots of money, just be creative and make an atmosphere that speaks of love.
5 Stellar Ideas for Giving Your Home the Warmth of a Bed & Breakfast
Declutter!! Need I remind you to declutter?!
Vacuum!! Have a vacuum schedule based on your family’s needs. Is your living room or family room a high traffic area? We vacuum our family room daily since our wood stove creates a mess but our living room only once a week. If you have dogs or multiple cats you will have to adjust accordingly. It isn’t inviting to come into a home and have animal fur attach to your clothes!!
Hang pictures that welcome friends into your home. Welcome plaques or embroidered pictures are nice. So are framed Bible verses. Something that reflects who you are and Who you worship.
Change Up your furniture with paint, stain or stenciling – Visit Pinterest if you are short on ideas. Painting furniture is a great way of taking inexpensive thrifted items and creating something new that reflects a homey atmosphere. I have stripped and stained tables, painted chairs and dressers to make old used furniture look updated and homey. Maybe my color scheme and decorating is ‘old’ now but you get the idea?
Basically, the idea of giving your home the warmth of a bed and breakfast is to create a home where your loved ones and friends who enter will feel like kicking off their shoes and putting them on your coffee table. We relax better when the environment is inviting and relatively neat and clean.
Once you have completed the above 5 tips, buy some chocolates and set them out and wait for your family to come home and enjoy each other
You might have strained relationships which time can heal with a little effort on your part along with prayer. You will be well on your way to giving your home the warmth of a bed and breakfast.
I am absolutely sure that these ideas are not exhaustive. What ways are you giving your home the warmth of a bed and breakfast?
