Finding the best Journaling Bible was harder than I thought! We get so used to instant gratification with Amazon’s two-day service with Prime. Well, not quite instant but it comes close!!
If you have been following along, you know that I am just a kid in an adult body wanting to color again.
When I started seeing two of my favorite blogs coloring or painting in their Bibles, I wanted “IN” and fast!
One journaling artist paints and the other colors. I have heard from a friend that there are all sorts of complicated instructions out there in the cyber-journaling world about how to ‘cure’ your artwork or keep it from smudging.
I’m not going to get too complicated with my drawings. In fact, I only color.
BUT this post isn’t about how to draw and do artwork in your Bible. It is about finding the BEST journaling Bible just for you!!
You will have to choose.
I can only share my journey or my search for a Bible.
No one sends sample Bibles to me so I am slightly limited.
You will have to read the specifications in Amazon and get out a ruler to see which Bible has the dimensions and perks that you will be looking for.
This isn’t about which version to choose. All you will have to do is enter one of the links and look around for the version of your choice. The Bible I bought comes in at least two versions.
Just a Few of the Jounaling Bibles
I like to call them journaling Bibles but some of them are called ‘Notetaking Bibles.
I love the King James Version but your preference may be different. If you just follow one of the links I share, you can find a version that you prefer.
Just after Christmas, I ordered a journaling Bible from Amazon. You know how we all want instant gratification and how much Amazon Prime helps with that?! Well, I waited impatiently for two months before I realized that my Bible would not be coming any time soon. It was out-of-stock indefinitely!!
My husband, Tim, was really sweet and went online and helped me. It is confusing (to me) because there are so many different journaling Bibles available.
There is no way that what I am sharing will be comprehensive but I hope it will help you know what to look for.
The Best Journaling Bible for You
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. ~2 Timothy 2:15~
I am just going to give you about two Bibles to look at because that is all that I know.
The thing that I see as most important is the size of the side column and the thickness of the paper the Bible is printed on.
Some journaling Bibles have a 1.5 inch column. That is really narrow if you ask me!
My Bible has a 1.75 inch column and that little bit of difference is big!
The paper in my Bible is thicker than some and it is easy to erase on it.
There are lines in most columns which I love. It makes it easy to form the sizes for lettering and drawings. Once it is colored (or painted if you dare), the lines are not noticeable.
This Bible won out over another one that never came even after I waited
impatiently for two months.
I still don’t think it is available on Amazon. That’s the only place to shop around here as there are no Christian bookstores that I know of.
If you prefer the Holman NKJV Journaling Bible click this link.
What I love about this Bible the BEST is that the print is in ONE column!! The other KJV Bible I was waiting for (did I tell you that I was impatient?) had two columns. I wasn’t crazy about that.
The print is smaller than I would prefer (but that is an age-thing) as I wouldn’t want the Bible any bigger. It is a perfect size with dimensions of approximately 6 1/2 X 9 inches. In other words, it is small enough to carry comfortably.
This Bible is exactly the same as the Holman KJV Bible (above) in cover design, dimensions, column width for the print (6 1/2 X 9 inches) and 1.75 inches for the column you do your art and doodling in.
Again, there is just one column for the print. This isn’t always the case for journaling Bibles so be careful if this is your preference. I like the one column the best!
If you are not comfortable reading the KJV (which is my favorite and one I quote from most) then you might consider this one.

You can choose the color of your choice in most of these Bibles.
The prices are totally awesome!!
This is an awesome Bible that comes in the following cover designs!! This is the ultimate in creative journaling Bibles. Plus, it will get you started with illustrative ideas that you can color or paint in. Then, there is still plenty of room for you to do your own.
You can pick the KJV or many other versions which are also available.
This Bible’s dimensions are 6 1/2 X 8 1/2 inches with a column of 1 5/8 inches wide. I have a friend who just received hers and she is so excited about it and just totally LOVES it!
It is imitation leather (which is fine with me) and has a lay-flat spine. That is so important for artwork. This is great for the budding artist!
Although there are 400 pages with pre-done artwork that you can color in, there is still pages that you can take your own notes or do your own artwork.
I like drawing and lettering in parts of verses that remind me of what I just read. It also helps me to internalize it into my heart as I color.
Even the inside cover is gorgeous!
God is the God of creation and I think He takes pleasure when we give Him praise and worship through our budding creativity for His glory!!
I hope this really makes you want to express yourself to Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior.
If you do not know Christ, I invite you to learn more about Him HERE.
Do you express yourself in worship and praise through Bible journaling? Do you just write out verses, take notes, or draw? I’d really LOVE to know!
