Getting Your Perfect Morning Routine Off to a Smooth Start
Getting your perfect morning routine off to a smooth start, most days is important in maintaining sanity in the ups and downs of raising children. You will always feel more balanced once the house is tidied and cleaned so you can get on with the day’s business.
Finding your perfect morning routine will help tremendously.
Perfect ? Well Yes!
The morning routine you will choose is the most perfect for YOU in YOUR season of life. That doesn’t mean that some days you don’t reverse the order of the tasks when that makes more sense, and that if you neglect some of the tasks for today you can’t get right back into the routine tomorrow.
Find a scratch piece of paper and jot down all the things you must do each day to get your perfect morning routine off to a good start.
Pick out a time that you intend on getting up each morning. If you get up late, just start doing the routine remembering that it is NOT a schedule!
Here is my Perfect Morning Routine:
Remember to be flexible when you have young children knowing that these tasks will take a bit longer.
- Make bed – You will feel so much better when you come into your bedroom.
- Exercise – When my children were babies up through 17, they exercised with me as part of school. Now I exercise first thing or it just doesn’t happen. Just 15 minutes a day will do wonders for your metabolism, weight control, cycle issues, and will also clarify your thinking through integrating the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
- Shower – Make a shower a priority if at all possible. Children can be taught to stay in bed until you are out of the shower. Ask me how I know! Thanks for asking! I had 5 children who were 6 down to a newborn with two ‘older’ children (9 and 11). I also cared for twin babies all last year, so my thoughts are fresh. You did ask, didn’t you?
- Quiet Time – This is the most important part of your day. If your children are little have your Quiet Time before they wake up or during their nap time. You could have it after the children go to bed, but keep in mind that you might get too busy with other things that are difficult to put down.
- Start Laundry!! Please start your laundry?! Wet clothes mildew. Mildew can give you respiratory issues. Not only is it a financial waste to ruin clothes, but it is very difficult to wash that blackened mildew out of clothes. Dirty clothes get stinky!!
- Drink water if you haven’t already.
- Wash dishes that reappeared in the sink.
- Put Hot Spots out in the living areas.
- Thaw something for dinner!!
- Check your calendar – Have you ever missed a child’s doctor’s appointment because your calendar was in your head? Enough said!
- Checkbook – Bring down the balance. This is really important if you keep your bill money in a separate account like we do. We keep enough money for gas and food in our checking account, so I have to watch it and stay within budget.
- Check Email and Social Media (FINALLY!! :-))
My Morning Routine doesn’t include things like diaper changes, feeding and dressing the babies and toddlers. This is MY Morning Routine of the things I feel must get done at the start of each day. Some of these things can be delegated to children and included on their chore lists and removed from mine.
The beauty of a Morning Routine is that once you establish what must get done to start each day, you end up going into automatic mode very quickly and no longer need to refer to your list.
If you follow a similar list, you will never get drawn into Facebook or Pinterest before your Quiet Time because you will have a right perspective on your day.
