Fervency in 2015 is ONE WORD plus four more; like the hub of a wheel with spokes branching out in four directions affecting every single area of my life.
“Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;” ~Romans 12:11~
I take each New Year very seriously as I look over the past year and close the pages of the ‘old’ and open the crisp ‘new’ pages of the days that lie ahead.
I used to make resolutions but now choose just one word.
Why bother when I break each resolution like the Ten Commandments before the year has hardly begun?!
My life is messy and full of regrets and mistakes that I’d rather not talk about. Thankfully Jesus doesn’t want me to dwell too long on the ‘old’ and wants me to live in the present and look to the ‘new.’
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” ~2 Corinthians 5:17~
This is the third year that I have chosen just One Word to reflect my year. The first year, God directed me to the word Joy. At that point in my life, Joy was the last thing that was reflected in my life. I could hardly crack a smile for the heavy burden of stress weighing my life down.
But God knows what He is doing when he leads you to chose one word for the year.
Last year, God lead me to the word fervent and I shared about it as 2014 took off.
Soon life swirled like a whirlwind around me and I mostly forgot about my one word. I was discovering how JOY was encapsulating my life; though it was hard to see any joy in my circumstance.
But joy doesn’t have anything to do with circumstances. It is everything to do with the presence of Jesus permeating your life.
He fills you with joy.
You can’t work joy up!!
Why Fervency in 2015?
Because I didn’t finish learning to be fervent in 2014; God is giving me a second chance.
God is a God of second chances.
I am doing the unthinkable and chosing (almost) the same word as last year. Just changed it up some.
Fervency Makes Me Think of Prayer
I don’t pray enough.
I want to pray with fervency like the older missionaries when I was a little girl living in Hong Kong.
I want fervency to touch every single area of my life.
One Word Plus Four More
When I look up the definition for a word, Synonyms are used in the description. There are four words that come to my mind when I think of fervency.
Each of these words add to the meaning I want to give fervency in 2015 as I apply it to the following areas of my life and yours.
- Fervency for Jesus
- Fervency in marriage or singleness
- Fervency in motherhood
- Fervency in my home
- Fervency in ministry
- Fervency in mommy time
Of course, we will have to talk about balance and organization as too much time in any of these areas would be sure to tip the scales.
You may not have more than 5 minutes to read God’s Word each morning and hardly any time to pray before your kiddos wake up, but you still can have fervency.
I challenge you to join me in learning to have fervency in 2015 in whatever season God has placed you. To give yourself continually to constant, persistent, sleepless, overcoming prayer as you press into Jesus in marriage (or singleness), in motherhood, your home, in your ministry, and in those rare moments of mommy time.
Your daily responsibilites are constant and persistent. Your nights might be sleepless with a nursing baby, and YES, you can be constant, persistent, sleepless, in prayer as you overcome the difficulties that your life brings in 2015.
When your children grow up, your problems can be constant, persistent, and your nights sleepless with anxiety but you can be an overcomer as you turn these problems around with constant, persistent, sleepless overcoming prayer.
