What is it to be happy? Should we even be happy or is it joy that we should be looking for? These are some of the questions that I have been thinking about lately as I have been contemplating happiness.
- We just know we will be happy when we win $1,000,000 in the lottery!
- If you can buy that outfit you saw in the sales flyer, certainly you will be happy!
- When you buy a new home, like the one on Pinterest, you KNOW that will bring happiness!
- When your baby is born, that will make you truly happy!
- Your favorite decadent dessert will surely be the icing on your happiness!
“He that observeth the wind shall not sow, and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.” ~Ecclesiastes 11:4~
Nothing much gets accomplished when it is a windy day.
If you just sit there and watch the wind blowing, you’ll never get anything accomplished.
Have you ever laid on your back on a hot summer’s day and watched the clouds float by? It is a wonderfully fun thing to do. Nothing at all wrong with watching clouds but again, you won’t get anything accomplished if that is all you do all day, every day.
Hapiness is like that.
If you are searching after happiness and barking up the wrong tree, you won’t find it.
Happiness is not found in what we own, win, have, or eat.
I hesitate to even think I should be happy because the world has ruined what happiness is all about. For the last three years I have been learning to be joyful.
But guess what?
We need to be happy too!
I am finding out that happiness has a whole lot to do with joy!
It is all in how you look at happiness. We need to redefine what being happy is all about.
If you are in the middle of raising your kiddos, you are exactly the sweet friend I am talking to. If you are in the middle of finding your way now that the kids have grown up and you are alone for hours, I hope this will speak to your heart too.
There is release in happiness.
Finding contentment in wherever and in whatever is in your life is the key to being happy.
Then you can let your heart give you joy.
“Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.” ~1 Peter 1:8~
Are you allowing discontentment and stress to consume you? Will you allow happiness to be released in your heart by appreciating what is in your life right now?
