“THIS is the day which the LORD hath made; we WILL rejoice and be glad in it!!” (Psalm 118:24
Choosing your attitude is such a good thing and yet with a complaining and discontent attitude we will sabotage our best efforts. That is why learning to have gratitude is a habit we all need to culture this year.
We are well into the fourth week of 2015 and by now most of us have forgotten where we started off with our goals for the year. Did you chose One Word for the year? Mine is ‘Fervency‘ and I am applying it to every area of my life, even as I fervently seek to have an attitude of gratitude.
I can forget to have an attitude of gratitude very quickly into my day. You too?
A whinny cranky toddler or hormonal teenager can very quickly push us into action mode where we forget gratitude. This is when we have to take extra care to have a grateful spirit. It may not change their attitude but it will definitely change the atmosphere.
Did you start a gratitude journal a couple years ago? I did using Ann Voskamp’s book. I would write down what I was thankful for right in the book. Life got busy and I forgot totally that I was trying to record 1000 gifts from God that I was thankful for that year. I am going to pick that habit up again because it completely changed how I was looking at life.
I am watching snow steadily falling outside my windows as I sit in the warmth of my basement. I could be complaining about the snow because it brings me more work. I will have to bring enough wood into the house to get us through the storm and I will have to shovel snow off our deck. My husband has to drive home from work in it. I know how bad the roads are already because I was out grocery shopping earlier.
But this snow is a gift from God. It is gorgeous and gives a blanket of purity over what could be dirt and mud. I could be discontent and long for spring.
Instead, I will write it down on my gratitude list of gifts from God. What are you adding to your list today?
Having a Heart of Gratitude
Keeps you from an attitude of bitterness.
Helps you to appreciate your kids even though one of them is screaming.
Gives you a sense of gratefulness to God for all that He has done. Great is Thy Faithfulness!!
Provides you with peace that passes all understanding over your future and present difficulties.
Your attitude and gratitude are the first things you need to square away when getting organized in your home. Without a good attitude and with an ungrateful, discontent spirit, you will fail at best in having the right spirit as you serve your family.
Sure, you can do everything and do it right. Without abiding in the Holy Spirit you will sabotage all of your best efforts.
There is no glory in a bad attitude or reward when you stand before God.
Without gratitude you will not even appreciate the most important thing that anyone ever did for you.
God sent His only Son to die for you. It is because of His shed blood that you can stand before Him as a redeemed child of God.
If you are not walking with Jesus in the Spirit, all your service will not stand the fire and will be only hay and stubble.
