It is important as a mama to be fit. It is also important for girls and unmarried women to be fit. Why wait until your body starts changing with age?
Here are the reasons to workout, that I found to be important in my life.
I did happen to be sort-of-athletic but that kind-of-dissipates as we age and our body changes.
When I was in high school and college, I had a love/hate relationship with running. I could easily have been on the track team but my parents thought our family supper time was more important. I agree and am thankful that they thought so too.
I also loved to swim.
Naturally. I grew up where the humidity was extreme and finding some water to jump into was refreshing. Sometimes. I remember jumping into the pool only to find that the water was hotter than the temperature!!
You would find me on the high dive contemplating a perfect jack-knife whenever possible.
Once I was married and had children, the time and motivation were not always existent. I would ‘think’ about doing a workout once a month when my body and hormones were totally out-of-wack.
No matter your age, here are 5 reasons why you ought to find time to workout.
Although I remember doing a workout even when I was pregnant, I should have done so with much more consistency.
Five Reasons to Workout Daily
A workout gives you an energizing boost. No, really!! If you workout first thing in your day (as possible) you will find you are energized for the entire day. When children are little you have to be creative in finding time for a workout. Maybe you will do it with them crawling around you like I did when my children were little when my grandtwin babies lived with us. It really helps in keeping your muscles and bones strong enough for lifting small children. It strengthens your back. It even boosts how you feel about yourself which is why I love using the Bible verse in Psalms 139:14.
A workout increases productivity. Now who doesn’t need that?! Twenty-four hours (with hours subtracted for sleep) are just NOT enough hours in the day of a mama!! Would you believe that those 15+ minutes doing a workout will give you a payback in productivity? What could be better than that?! Movement of our body each day increases the functionality of our brains making both hemispheres integrate and work together more effectively. If you do exercises that cross the mid-line (the line straight down the center of your body) you will improve cognitive thinking. Incredible isn’t it?! God really has made us so fearfully and wonderfully. Do you know that right well??
A workout is a calorie burner even when resting. Totally!! Do you get that?? Not only will you burn calories while you are exercising but you will burn them while you slow down, sit, or sleep!! Amazing!! I’m totally “IN”, are you?? I try to eat healthy to keep the pounds I lost 4 years ago from coming back.
Workout because you’ll feel bad if you don’t!! You will have issues that can be avoided or at least decreased through movement. When I don’t move my body, typically I have a very sluggish, melancholy, dull thinking sort of feeling. I wake up feeling overly tired for no good reason at all. There are times that I have been convinced that I was on my way to having blood sugar issues. I have been intentional about working out the last 5 years, symptoms such as back discomfort have all but decreased or disappeared. At least I can say that if I wake up feeling ‘bad’ the feeling is gone once I’ve done my workout. And just 20 minutes most days, no more.
A workout is a stress buster!! Yes, it really and truly is!! We all go through times in our life that are just so stressful that we see no relief in sight. Maybe it is our marriage, or finances (which becomes our marriage), or one (or two) of our children (which affects our marriage), or some disastrous event in life (unfortunately we aren’t promised a rose-garden-life as believers). I am here to tell you that although working out doesn’t remove the “stressor” in your life, it does help you to balance that stress so that you can more effectively deal with it in wisdom. God is able to use our workout to balance us out.
Those are five reasons to stay fabulously fit through a daily workout. What works for me is T-Tapp but I will share about that another time.
