God cares about the most insignificant details of our life as well as the biggest issues we face. It may seem that money is too insignificant an issue for God to care about but that is far from the truth.
Money is the biggest issue that will divide and tear a marriage apart.
We can be financially well off one day and in a moment have all our earthly possessions dashed and ruined by fire, flooding, or a calamity.
All that Job owned was destroyed in a few moments of time. His sons, daughters, servants, sheep, and camels. All that he had was gone! (Job 1)
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. ~Job 1:16-17~
Prayer for our money is probably neglected more than we want to admit. We are so busy in our society and rest in the use of our credit card more than we rest in God for our provisions.
Credit does not encourage us to trust God.
Are You in a Money Mess?
There are all kinds of reasons you might find yourself in a money mess. The reasons may change over the course of your life and marriage (if married) as money ebbs and flows.
Not all money issues are because of poor financial decisions.
Can you identify with any of these causes of money issues?
- Poor money decisions
- Health issues with a family member
- Employment issues (job loss, cut-backs)
- An unexpected problem (home or car repair for example)
- Death of a loved one (medical and funeral expenses)
- Or other tragedy
- A joyous occasion such a wedding or birth
Are You Having Trouble Making Ends Meet?
When we were raising our children, even without financial difficulties, it was hard making ends meet.
Our money struggles were in huge home repairs: like a new roof, septic issues where we had to install a new one, or when the footing drains around the house failed (flooding inside our finished basement – UGH!!) True story!!
So, what are you to do when money is tight because of job loss (been there), or health issues, or just simply because there is not enough money to stretch?
What if you have gotten in a huge money mess with credit debt?
Here is a great verse to keep in mind. Not laboring to get rich does NOT mean not to work to provide for your family. We just need to keep in mind that our money all comes from God in the first place.
Just as we might have lots of money in the bank, it can just as easily vanish in a moment of time. Just saying.
Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven. ~Proverbs 23:4-5~
5 Reasons Why Praying for Money Works
- Praying about our money pleases God.
- Praying about our money builds faith in God and not our own endeavors for building wealth.
- Praying for wisdom in dealing with our money situation helps us look to the Source of money instead of finding our own solutions.
- Praying about our money decisions avoids poor financial planning because we are praying before buying items (at Walmart or Target?!), vehicle or home.
- Praying that God provides for our family and protects us from debt allows the blessings from heaven to pour out on us.
These are the 5 reasons why praying about money works. Jesus cares about our every need. Even those needs we created through our poor financial decisions.
Renewing Your Mind About Money
We currently have no car loans or credit card debt. We have only one credit card. We only have our mortgage left to pay up. I am not going to boast that we live debt-free because we have been in-and-out of where we are at right now.
I have been-around-the-block a couple times enough to know that credit can accumulate just because of a huge financial stress occurring.
I will say, that it is easy to get out of debt (no, it is not easy to get out of debt) but it is easy to get right back into debt UNLESS you CHANGE UP your mind about money.
In other words, you must RENEW your mind about money!!
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the RENEWING OF YOUR MIND, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. ~Romans 12:1-2~
This verse isn’t about money exactly but so totally applies. I used it in the post I wrote yesterday too!!
God cares about our money issues.
He encourages us to come to Him in prayer about the struggles we are having with money. It builds faith in Him which is far more important than building wealth. If your wealth happens to be built in the meantime, it is because God also loves to bless us. It is NOT guaranteed that God will bless us with money or wealth.
God wants to teach us how to handle our money by living debt free.
It is often a journey to debt free living. It doesn’t take much time to get into a money mess; but it sure takes time and often years to get out of the mess we made!!
Have these 5 reasons blessed you? I hope you take the time to share with me how God is working in your life about money.
